Me, and Us.

In my room, there's a mirror with a crack,

One person stares, and two stare back,

One wears my face, the reflection that I know,

The other is still me, the me that comes from below.

In my room, there's a shadow on the wall,

One figure stands, but two seem to fall,

One moves as I do, a shape I can't escape,

The other lingers behind, reshaping my fate.

The light flickers softly, yet two flames glow,

One steady and bright, the other burns low,

One guides my steps, a path I can see,

The other drifts aimless, like waves in the sea.

The window shows skies, but clouds blur the view,

One clear and blue, the other dark, askew,

One whispers of calm, a future held tight,

The other hums storms, in the dead of the night.

I often wonder, which of them is true,

The herald of good tidings, or the siren of doom,

I know they're all real, yet it seems,

Within my mind, doubts are born anew.

Quietly contemplating, which path do I choose,

The steady hand of hope, or the fear I can't lose,

Both sing to me softly, both claim to be right,

Yet in their chorus, I stand alone in the fight.

The mirror, the shadow, the flames, and the sky,

Each holds a truth, though they blur and deny,

One pulls me forward, the other pulls back,

And I am caught in the space where they lack.

Yet still I move, despite the divide,

A step in the darkness, a step where I hide,

For maybe the answer isn't in either view,

But in learning to carry the weight of the two.
