I remember vividly how easily and frequently I stumbled upon potential predators online when I was a child. With the benefit of hindsight, I fear even more for my past self and other present and future versions of her. Did I really stumble on these preying adults, because they are simply a dime a dozen on the lawless internet, or did they seek me out with intent? Is one of these options better than the other?
In this piece of digital art, inspired by my childhood experiences, I depict a utopia. In my heart, an ideal future for child social spaces is one where adults have no foothold. They are barred completely. Children are free to explore and interact just as easily in the digital world as in a physical playground, free from lurking predators with disguised malicious intent. A sacred place.
