What makes an actor good or bad? I believe that for an actor to be considered good, versatility in character representation is the most pivotal. By this, I mean that a good actor should be able to play any role especially if it is in stark contrast to his actual personality and most importantly his sexuality. Isn’t this what acting being all about, who can put on a better mask? So, a homosexual actor playing a straight role is the epitome of great acting. Therefore, it is integral to recognize such great actors who have played straight roles despite being homosexual! To bring these actors into the limelight I have compiled this list to get them the attention that they deserve.

   

 

      Jim Parsons:

                    James Joseph Parsons (born March 24, 1973) an American actor remembered as the geeky genius scientist in The Big Bang Theory. He starred in this role from 2007 to 2019, the total run time of the show. He has remained a commendable actor throughout his whole career, achieving various awards, including four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy. A young ambitious boy from Houston, Texas heavily influenced by sitcoms, particularly Three's Company, Family Ties, and The Cosby Show has definitely made his mark on the world. He has made millions of people’s lives a little bit brighter in his three-decade long vibrant career. According to the critics he has been the most highly paid actor in 2018.

            Parsons is openly gay, and his husband, Todd Spiewak, is an art director and producer. After meeting on a blind date in 2002 they wholeheartedly committed themselves to each other and walked to the alter together in May 2017. Together, they collaborated to produce the spin-off series of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. Not only has this intellectual offspring reinforced both of their careers but has also made their relationship stronger.

 

 

Elliot Page (formerly Ellen Page):

You would best recall Elliot Page (formerly Ellen Page; born February 21, 1987) for her tear-jerker performance as a straight single mom in Juno. For this performance which moved thousands to tears, she was recognized for her talent by being nominated for an Academy Award. The Canadian actor has also added two BAFTA Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award to his shelf of accolades. Elliot page is also profoundly recognized for his role in the blockbuster movie “Inception".

Elliot's page is intricately involved in voicing apprehension against global catastrophes. On abortion rights, in 2008, Page described himself as a pro-choice feminist. Moreover, he was one of 30 celebrities who participated in a 2008 online advertisement series for the US Campaign for Burma, calling for an end to the military dictatorship in Myanmar. Perhaps most prominently Page practices a sternly vegan lifestyle. PETA has also named him and Jared Leto the Sexiest Vegetarians of 2014. This title not only testifies to Page’s beauty but also emphasizes his environmental endeavors. Aside from this, He is an atheist, having remarked that religion "has always been used for beautiful things, and also as a way to justify discrimination"

He had a relationship with Olivia Thirlby during the filming of Juno, and with Kate Mara, with whom he co-starred in My Days of Mercy, in 2014. In 2017, Page and Emma Portner a choreographer publicly revealed that they were in a relationship. They had met after Page noticed Portner on Instagram. In January 2018, Page announced their marriage. They separated in mid-2020, and Page filed for divorce in January 2021; it was finalized in early 2021.

 

Luke Evans: 

                    "Talent, success, what you do in your personal life – I don't see how one should affect the other,” said Luke Evans. Adhering to this statement, although Evans is openly gay, he is unwilling to discuss his sexuality in the press, asserting his personal life to be private. He deliberately shields his family from the press. When asked about the opinion that Hollywood might have of his sexuality, he argued that his private life is not connected to Hollywood.

Luke George Evans (born 15 April 1979) is a Welsh actor and singer. In 2013, Evans starred as the antagonist Owen Shaw in the blockbuster Fast & Furious 6 and the leading roles in Dracula Untold and the TV series Echo 3. A graduate of King Cross London practiced as Jehovah's Witness but he left the school and his religion at the same time to pursue an acting career. Winner of the British Independent Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor and Teen Choice Awards for Best Villain in Beauty and the Beast, Luke Evans has proved himself for being called one of the bests in the showbiz industry. 

Luke Evans and his current boyfriend, Fran Tomas, are reported to be enjoying their life together. confirmed Their relationship was confirmed by The Good Grief actor and construction project manager when they attended a gala arm-in-arm in December 2022.

 

Ian McKellen:

Fun Fact! Did you know that your favorite wizard, Gandalf the white is actually gay? Well not quite, but the actor Ian McKellen who played the role of Gandalf in “Lord of the Rings” is homosexual. This sensational actor whose career spans more than 6 decades was knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1991. In his illustrious career, Ian has displayed his profound talent and has received a wide array of accolades, including a Tony Award, six Olivier Awards, and a Golden Globe Award. Furthermore, he has also been nominated for two Academy Awards, five BAFTA Awards, and five Emmy Awards.

He is an especially bold actor as he had adamantly declared his sexuality in the 1960s which were the times when homosexuals were ostracized and considered a taboo for the society. McKellen’s first partner, Brian Taylor was a history teacher from Bolton. They began their relationship in 1964. Their relationship lasted for eight years and came to its end in 1972.  Subsequently, in 1978 fate let him meet his second partner, Sean Mathias, at the Edinburgh Festival.  This relationship lasted a full decade and ended in 1988. According to Mathias, it was tempestuous, with conflicts over McKellen's success in acting versus Mathias's somewhat less successful career. Concurrently, the 84-year-old actor is single and continues to make a mark on the world through his artistic endeavors.

 

Matthew Staton Bomer:

                Matthew Staton Bomer is a celebrated American actor who is acknowledged as a sex symbol and has earned himself a heartthrob status. Bomer has a wide array of accolades to his name. In 2015, he won a Golden Globe Award and received a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for his role as a closeted writer in the television film The Normal Heart.

 

Although Bomer denied the allegation that he and Henry Cavil were brothers. He affirmed the rumor on being a homosexual. Bomer remotely married publicist Simon Halls in 2011 and he publicly came out with his relationship in 2012 while still starring in perhaps his career’s most recognizable role as Neil Caffrey in “White Collar”. In an interview discussing his marriage, Bomer admitted that his marriage to Halls was a very small event in New York City: "It was very chill and very small–just our closest and dear ones. There is a security, a validity. It's just a feeling, I think–something about saying vows in front of the people around you who love and support you. I think it was good for our family." The couple has three children conceived through surrogacy: Kit Bomer Halls (born in 2005), and then twin brothers, Walker and Henry Bomer Halls (born in 2008).
