This is a piece I wrote which resonates with many who lost their loved ones during the Pandemic, far too young to process such a tragedy. Cherish every moment, for life can often be cruel.
Someday
wandering about in the pouring rain
staring at the evanescent rings around my feet
a calling voice drenched in pain
her face i wasn't yet ready to meet
i walked on, farther away from the voice
an ominous thunder gave way
to make me consider the other choice
with an apathetic tone, i said 'nay'
to give credence to her absence
will stir nothing but disquiet
to acquiesce to the new appearance
of my life and the lies of rectitude
to suppress the cacophony in my head
availing my will, to remain stoic
seems the only route to escape the dead
someday i'll refute me and be heroic
that day, with certitude, approach your grave
place flowers inches above your recumbent body
releasing the bereavement making me a slave
and i will better breathe, someday, someday.
