Reflecting on 2025 brings together moments of change, community and growth. We delved into topics impacting young people, joined forces with like-minded organisations, influenced policymaking and elevated young voices.
Here, we look back on some of the best moments.
We Reached 1000 Submitted Pieces
We’ve officially surpassed 1000 submitted pieces on our content platform. Young people from around the world have spoken about a range of topics from mental health, friendships, school and growing up to social media, gaming and artificial intelligence.
Your Early Warning System
We stayed ahead of the curve by delving into and reporting on emerging trends in youth and online cultures, including our investigation into ‘SkinnyTok’ and the resurgence of online pro-ana content. Read more about that here.
WeProtect Global Threat Assessment
VoiceBox was specially commissioned by the WeProtect Global Alliance and the CPC Learning Network at Columbia University to ensure the Prevention Framework for the 2025 Global Threat Assessment would be relevant, appropriate, and impactful for the young people it was designed to serve. To achieve this, we facilitated a focus group with a diverse group of young people, aged 14-18, from seven different countries and various backgrounds, including participants from marginalised communities and survivors of genocide. This project allowed us to directly integrate their invaluable feedback and lived experiences into the final design of this critical framework. Learn more about it here.
Bringing Youth Perspectives to Ofcom
As members of Ofcom’s Making Sense of Media Panel, we’ve spent the last year working with the regulator on its three-year media literacy strategy, supporting research, partnerships and engagement. We’ve enjoyed collaborating with a range of experts, and look forward to continuing our work into the next year. Read more about the panel here.
GSMA Global Focus Groups
We worked with the GSMA to conduct a series of global focus groups that allowed young people to provide feedback on a set of free resources called the Mobile Internet Skills Training Toolkit. Its purpose is to educate people on the basics of mobile internet, including what it is, why it is relevant, and how to use it safely, to provide them with the basic digital skills needed to use mobile internet effectively.
We spoke to young people in India, Pakistan, Ethiopia and Nigeria, gathering insights on their online experiences and what they wish they had learned about media literacy when they were younger. Their insights were invaluable in shaping recommendations for how the toolkit can better support people in their communities.
Our Work on Nuffield’s Grown Up? Programme
As part of Nuffield’s Grown Up? programme, VoiceBox’s Director, Natalie and Parent Zone’s Cliff Manning explored the growing trend of parental tracking apps.
Our young people have expressed a lot of frustration over digital parental surveillance – even when it comes from a good place.
Tech can be a great tool for checking in on our children, but if taken too far, it can erode trust and hinder their independence and ability to navigate life's challenges on their own. Read more here.
NextGen and Musician Spotlight
We spent the last year interviewing young people around the world about their passions and stories. Ten interviews were published as part of our NextGen and Musician Spotlight series, from young actors to youth advocates and singer-songwriters. Check them out here.
A Year of Events
We’re honoured to have been invited to a range of events throughout the year, including a YouTube roundtable at the House of Lords, a knowledge-sharing session at the IWF, an AI companion event with the Ada Lovelace Foundation, a digital youth summit in Nashville and as a guest speaker at the PSHE conference, presenting our work around AI chatbots.
In 2026…
The new year is already shaping up to be an exciting one! We’re working on a range of projects, including a piece of research on childhood gambling. If you’re an expert in child financial harms and would like to speak to us, please reach out at info@voicebox.site. We’re looking forward to collaborating with you.
