5 Lord of the Rings Characters Who Deserved More Screen Time

The movies didn't do these characters justice...

There's no doubt in saying that the Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest movie trilogies of all time. Despite being only three movies, its total runtime clock is around 696 minutes for the extended edition.

While it did have a lot of time to work with, the story of the Lord of the Rings is so complex and so beautiful that it's almost impossible to give justice to every character. Major characters like Frodo Baggins had a major chunk of screen time in the series, while others shined in the limited screen time they had.

With dozens of rewatches, I’ve realized that there are a few characters who should have been more on the screen than they originally were.

5. Eomer

Eomer was the brother of Eowyn and a great warrior in the army of Rohan. He had pledged his allegiance to his kingdom and worked for the welfare of his people despite being thrown out of Rohan by Grima Wormtongue.

After the death of King Theoden, he ascended the throne of Edoras. His character and portrayal by Karl Urban were praised by fans worldwide and deserved more screen time than what he got.

4. Grima Wormtongue

Grima Wormtongue was a trusted chief advisor of Theoden before siding alongside Saruman The White. He was a perfect depiction of what other species saw ‘Men’ as in Middle Earth.

Hungry for what he wants and a backstabber, Wormtongue was a great character who had too little screen time. While the Scouring of the Shire was removed from the movies, a character like him could have had screen time elsewhere and no one would have complained.

3. Faramir

Faramir was one of the few characters that the movies failed to do justice. However, there's no denying that he was a lovable character and fans had sympathy for him due to Denethor's treatment towards him.

Faramir is often compared to Tolkien himself and was portrayed incredibly by David Wenham. I believe his marriage to Eowyn should have been included in the movies.

2. Denethor

Lord Denethor was easily one of the most hated characters when the movies came out. He hated Faramir and wanted no role in the fight against evil.

His character was played so well by John Noble that it becomes so hard to believe that Denethor was once a rightful steward who could do anything for the sake of his people. Maybe a little peep into the past of Denethor could've given fans a glimpse of how badly Boromir's death had affected him.

1. Isildur

Isildur was a major reason behind the events of Lord of the Rings despite being dead for almost three millennia. While he was the reason why Sauron could not take over Middle Earth, he was also the man behind the ring's continued existence as he refused to cast it into Mount Doom.

Despite being a crucial figure, it's astonishing that the only words he said in the trilogy were "No". He was the founder of the House of Gondor alongside his father and also the one who planted the White Tree in Gondor. He deserved a bit more screen time for what he did before the battle against Sauron.
